The Balham Seventh-day Adventist church was alive with energy and anticipation as it hosted the 2025 UCY Education and Careers Fair. This vibrant weekend united faith, education, and professional development. The event took place from Sabbath, 27 September, featuring a worship service, to Sunday, 28 September, culminating in the eagerly awaited Careers Fair.

The weekend commenced with an uplifting Sabbath service led by the Unlimited Creativity for Youth (UCY) team. Young voices shone as UCY children formed the praise team, filling the sanctuary with exuberant worship. The sermon, presented by Pastor Dusanka Rancic, Editor of the Stanborough Press Ltd, resonated deeply with attendees. Drawing inspiration from the lives of Joseph, Moses, and Esther, Pastor Rancic stressed that periods of preparation are crucial before embracing one’s calling. Her message held particular significance for young individuals navigating their own journeys of purpose.

Adding to the day’s inspiration, Serena Santona, Academic Registrar at Newbold College, showcased the institution’s academic programmes, highlighting the importance of faith-based education in fostering both intellectual and spiritual growth.
Saturday evening featured a stimulating discussion on artificial intelligence. Ray Patrick of Adventist Radio London and UCY Director Craige Young examined how AI can be utilised for personal development and ministry. Their session left attendees both enlightened and inspired to critically reflect on the evolving influence of technology in faith and everyday life.

The excitement carried over into Sunday’s Education and Careers Fair, which attracted participants from all over the UK. Workshops covered a broad spectrum of fields, including healthcare, media, education, and entrepreneurship, providing practical guidance and opportunities to connect directly with professionals. Attendees gained personalised advice, networking opportunities, and interactive discussions tailored to prepare them for future success.
The day’s highlight was the keynote address by YolanDa Brown OBE DL – an internationally celebrated saxophonist, broadcaster, and Chancellor of the University of Kent. Sharing her personal story, Brown encouraged attendees to embrace opportunities with bravery and hope. “Always say yes to opportunities,” she urged, leaving the audience with a compelling call to pursue their aspirations confidently.
In reflecting on the event’s achievements, UCY expressed heartfelt thanks to Balham Seventh-day Adventist church for hosting and to the numerous contributors who made the weekend possible. With plans already in motion for next year, the UCY Education and Careers Fair continues to serve as a beacon of empowerment, inspiring youth and families to embrace faith, purpose, and possibility.
