In this week’s Tuesday Talks, Sharon Platt-McDonald reflects on how to prioritise. She draws from the scripture passage Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness,” to illustrate her experience as a trainee nurse and the unexpected benefits she gained from applying these words to her life.
In his book Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less, Greg McKeown states that “we either make our choices deliberately or allow other people’s agendas to control our lives.” Sometimes, it is not just the agendas of others but the competing priorities we set for ourselves. Myles Munro says that our life is the total of all the decisions we make daily, and our priorities determine those decisions.
Reflection
1. What is the number one priority in my life?
2. Are my daily decisions reflective of this priority?
3. How can I ensure that I put God First in my life?
Prayer
Almighty God, there are so many competing challenges in my life that it is easy for You to get squeezed out or put on the ‘back burner’. As I surrender to You daily and keep my mind focused on Your will and purpose, please take centre stage in my life as I ‘seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness’.
