Seventh-day Adventist education has long played a vital role in nurturing not only the academic growth of our young people, but also their spiritual development and moral character. Rooted in Christian values, our schools provide a unique environment where faith and learning go hand in hand. Today, however, this important mission is under threat. Through the Save Our Schools | Christian Education Appeal we are calling on all church members to take action to preserve this essential part of our community.
The purpose of Seventh-day Adventist education has always been clear: to provide a holistic education that reflects our beliefs and values. In a world where many educational systems are increasingly secular, our schools stand out as places where biblical principles are integrated into daily life. Students are not only taught academic subjects but are also guided in developing a personal relationship with God, learning compassion, integrity, and service.
A key strength of our educational system is the collaboration between home, school, and church. This partnership ensures that children receive consistent messages about faith and values in every area of their lives. Parents, teachers, and church leaders work together to support young people, creating a strong foundation that extends beyond the classroom. This united approach has proven to be powerful in shaping committed, thoughtful, and spiritually grounded individuals.
Our schools are more than just places of learning; they are centres of spiritual influence. Daily worship, weeks of spiritual emphasis, chaplaincy services, and active church-school partnerships all contribute to a vibrant faith experience for students and their families. The impact of this is clearly seen in the lives changed over the last few years: 33 pupil baptisms and 4 parent baptisms, along with 44 ongoing Bible studies. These numbers represent real people whose lives have been transformed through the influence of Adventist education.
The success of our schools is undeniable. They provide safe, nurturing environments where students can thrive academically and spiritually. They also serve as outreach centres, connecting families to the church and introducing many to the message of hope found in Christ. In many ways, our schools are among the most effective evangelistic tools we have.
Yet despite this success, serious challenges now threaten their survival. Government policies affecting independent schools have created financial and operational pressures that many institutions are struggling to meet. The reality is stark: nearly 140 private schools across the UK have already closed, including one of our own. Without immediate support and intervention, our own Seventh-day Adventist schools could face the same fate. This is why the Save Our Schools appeal is so urgent. It is not simply about preserving buildings or institutions; it is about protecting a mission. It is about ensuring that future generations continue to have access to an education that nurtures both mind and soul. It is about safeguarding a system that has already proven its value in transforming lives and strengthening the church.
Every church member has a role to play. Whether through prayer, financial support, advocacy, or simply raising awareness, each contribution matters. Now is the time to come together as a community, just as we encourage collaboration between home, school, and church. By acting now, we can secure the future of Adventist education in the UK.
The question is simple: can you help? By getting involved today, you become part of the solution. Together, we can ensure that Seventh-day Adventist education continues to flourish, inspiring faith, shaping character, and changing lives for generations to come.
