Dear Friends

Hurricane Beryl, a catastrophic event, swept through the Caribbean and Mexico from 1 to 5 July, causing extensive damage and leaving thousands homeless. On 1 July, Hurricane Beryl landed on the island of Carriacou (Grenada) with sustained winds of 222 km/h (138mph). This is the strongest hurricane to be recorded in June, during the initial phase of the Atlantic hurricane season.

Beryl left a desolate panorama in the Windward Islands as it continued its passage through the Caribbean Sea. Thousands of people were evacuated, houses and buildings were destroyed, and the Islands of Grenada, St Vincent, and the Grenadines were cut off from communications.

It made an intense landfall in Jamaica and Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula on Friday, 5 July.

Overseas

The ADRA Network Emergency Response Team is on the ground with surge capacity, coordinating the response and providing humanitarian assistance to the hardest-hit communities in the Windward Islands, Jamaica, and Mexico.

Imagine that your life and your children's lives have been turned upside down in just a matter of days. Now imagine you are disabled, extremely vulnerable or aged; the challenges are heightened.

Please keep the people of Grenada, Jamaica, Mexico, St Vincent and the Grenadines in your prayers.
