Empowered to Lead: The Lasting Impact of ‘Let Them Flourish’

Empowered to Lead: The Lasting Impact of ‘Let Them Flourish’

30 April 2026

What happens when an event not only meets expectations but exceeds them, touching every “sweet spot” for growth and transformation? From 17-19 April, Newbold College became a vibrant hub of learning during the ‘Let Them Flourish’ National Conference.

For more than 90 leaders, educators, and parents in attendance, the event offered more than training, it provided a practical and inspiring pathway from the theory of inclusion to the lived reality of creating environments where true belonging can flourish.

Deep Learning and Shifting Perspectives

At the heart of the conference were 12 practical workshops alongside impactful plenary sessions, all carefully designed to challenge existing mindsets and equip delegates with tangible tools for ministry.

From the outset, the focus was clear: to move beyond awareness and into action, supporting individuals with diverse needs in meaningful and sustainable ways.

The impact was immediate. One regional leader reflected:

“This is the best training conference I have ever attended on this topic… I can already see a shift in my approach as I return home.”

The training went beyond surface-level discussion, offering practical “how-to” strategies for cultivating cultural change within local church contexts. Another attendee shared that the insights from keynote speaker Dr Shaun Brooks inspired them to confront the “giants” they may face when implementing change in their own setting.

This was not simply information, it was activation. Delegates left equipped as advocates for intentional belonging within their churches and communities.

Exceptional Results

The response to the conference was overwhelmingly positive. Across workshops and plenary sessions, feedback scores consistently averaged 9 to 10 out of 10, reflecting the high quality and relevance of the training.

When asked to summarise their experience in a single word, delegates consistently responded with:

“Empowered.” “Inspired.” “Informed.” “Equipped.”

These responses highlight not only the effectiveness of the programme but also its ability to resonate deeply with those in attendance.

A Movement Gaining Momentum

The ‘Let Them Flourish’ initiative is only just beginning. The conference has ignited a renewed sense of responsibility to ensure that belonging is not treated as an optional extra, but as a central aspect of mission and ministry.

Plans are already in place for ‘Creating Belonging Days’ and regional training events, ensuring that the momentum from this gathering continues to shape practice across the British Union Conference (BUC) territory.

The vision is clear: to cultivate environments where every individual, regardless of background or need, is valued, supported, and able to flourish.

Looking Ahead

As the Church moves forward, there is a renewed commitment to listening, learning, and intentional action. The conference has provided not only inspiration but also a practical blueprint for embedding belonging into the life of the Church.
