It is with sadness that we announce the death of Samuel Ahwan who passed away on 21 December 2019 aged 87. He was born in the beautiful island of Mahe, Seychelles and brought up in an Adventist home. Samuel started his own Literature Evangelist (LE) ministry selling books and distributing literature as a young man in various parts of London from April 1979 to December 1985. He had tremendous success and was one of the top salespersons of Adventist literature. Although the hours were long, and the financial reward limited, Sam maintained that soul-winning was his goal and real reward. He was later employed by the South England Conference (SEC) as a LE in 1981 until retirement on 31 March 1997.
Samuel's passion was evangelism and even as a retiree he continued to work for the Church serving in the Personal Ministries and Deaconry department. SEC President, Pastor Emmanuel Osei knew Samuel very well and speaks fondly of him. Pastor Osei said "my family came to Christ because of Sam. As a LE, he sold books to my mum. Samuel's work of a LE is spiritual. The books they place in homes have power to direct families to the cross."
Our sympathies and prayers are with his family, his 7 children including daughter Kathleen Hanson, former BUC Education Director, 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
The funeral service was held on Thursday 16 January 2020, at Wimbledon International Seventh-day Adventist church, after which Bro Sam was laid to rest to await the coming of His Lord and Saviour.
