Annual Appeal which ends this coming Sunday 9 April for the majority of the UK and on the 16 April for those in the Greater London area.
This past week we have witnessed the effects of man's inhumanity toward each other. On Monday 3 April, a bomb was detonated in Russia between two railways stations, killing 10 people and seriously injuring countless others. The following day, chemical weapons were used in Syria killing 72 people, including 20 children, with devastating consequences to many more.
Our hearts should be moved with the suffering of others but often the plethora of sad news that is pumped out from the growing numbers of news channels appears to harden our sensibilities to the plight of others. And while our apathy may serve to protect our consciences from being over-burdened with concerns in foreign fields, our attitude does not ease the condition of those who are in need. We often talk about compassion as if it were an elusive dream but like Matahama Ghandi, if our desire is to help those in poverty, we must 'be the change you want to see in the world'.
Each year ADRA-UK invites you to make a change in your world through its Annual Appeal which ends this coming Sunday 9 April for the majority of the UK and on the 16 April for those in the Greater London area. A unique feature of this year's appeal is that 20% of the funds 'gathered' through door-to-door and other fundraising will go to assist outreach projects right here at home, where poverty is rife in many areas. A further 20% will be allocated for the famine in East Africa where millions are starving in what has been described as the 'worst humanitarian crisis of the 21st century'.
It's not too late to get involved. Contact the local ADRA agent in your church and sign up to go door-to-door fundraising. If 'gathering' funds by this method isn't for you, then why not make a personal donation or consider how you might get involved in the numerous other fundraising activities in your local area.
Do not just sit at home and complain about the challenges in the world! Get up and get involved. Remember, 'A life does not get better by chance. It gets better by change.'
Here is our challenge to you, to be the change that you want to see in the world.
