ADRA-UK Launches Advent Appeal to Support Families Facing Hunger

Church members are invited to turn festive gratitude into practical help between 1 November and 31 December.

ADRA-UK has launched its 2026 Advent Appeal, calling on churches, families and individuals across the British Union Conference (BUC) to support people facing hunger and hardship during the festive season.

The appeal, titled Advent with ADRA: A Season of Plenty. A Time to Share., runs from 1 November to 31 December and asks supporters to look beyond their own celebrations by helping families who do not know where their next meal will come from.

Hunger remains a global challenge

The 2026 edition of the United Nations’ State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report estimates that around 645 million people experienced hunger in 2025. Although the global figure fell for a third consecutive year, progress remains uneven and millions still lack reliable access to sufficient, nutritious food.

Conflict, disasters, poverty and rising food costs continue to place families under pressure. For many parents, that can mean reducing their own meals so their children can eat; for children, it can mean going to bed hungry.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat…” (Matthew 25:35, NIV).

Relief today, resilience for tomorrow

Through its global network, ADRA provides food, clean water and other essential assistance to communities affected by emergencies. Its work also extends beyond immediate relief, supporting sustainable livelihoods that help communities strengthen food security, improve incomes and build resilience for the future.

The Advent Appeal invites BUC church members, their family and friends, to put compassion into action by giving, sharing the campaign and praying for people in need.

How donations could help

Supporters are being encouraged to contribute whatever they can. The appeal suggests that:

  • £20 could provide a week’s emergency food supply for a family of two.

  • £40 could help feed a family of four for a week.

  • £60 could help provide a week’s meals for a family of six.

Donations can be made online at cafdonate.cafonline.org/31243 or through this QR code.

As churches and families prepare their festive meals, ADRA-UK is encouraging members to remember those for whom food is far from guaranteed – and to turn abundance into compassion and gratitude into action.

Give generously. Share the message. Pray for those in need. Help ADRA make a difference.
