ADRA-UK joins 48 leading UK charities in urging a future government to allow the UK to lead the world in global development.
ADRA-UK, together with other leading Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) such as Christian Aid, Mercy Corps, Tearfund and World Vision, have written an open-letter in this week's Guardian newspaper encouraging any future-elected government to let the UK continue to lead the world with regard to global development.
In their passionate statement of solidarity and commitment, the coalition of charity leaders say, "if we are to achieve the sustainable development goals* by 2030, we must all work together to eradicate poverty, reduce inequality, end violence and exploitation of the most vulnerable and tackle climate and environment emergency."
Pastor Bert Smit, ADRA-UK CEO and one of the signatories stated, "it is imperative that we advocate for the rights of the 'least of these'. The Sabbath School lessons for the third quarter of this year, spoke about practical Christianity. We often glean much from the 'study of the Word' but we also need to immerse ourselves in assisting those who are most in need both at home and to those living in the world's poorest countries."

*The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries − developed and developing − in a global partnership. They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
